Tiergarten Schönbrunn

We spent a beautiful morning at the Tiergarten Schönbrunn this week. It was a bit cloudy and the weather forecast called for thunderstorms, which meant there were very few people at the zoo! We stayed mostly in the forest to stay cool on a warm day and it turned out to be the perfect zoo morning.

While posing with the monkey statues, we could hear the wolves howling. I have never heard the wolves before, so we headed up into the woods to check it out. Sure enough, the wolves were out and running about, coming very close to the edge of the enclosure. I have never seem the wolves up close before. They are beautiful!

We continued on through the forest to the bees! My kids love the beehives and seeing all the bees buzzing around.

Continuing on, we passed the lynx enclosure. Late last year we saw the lynx for the very first time and then read in the paper that she had babies. Today we waited very patiently because we could see her wandering around in the forest, and she came close to the front with her two sweet babies. They were wrestling and biting each other. So fun!

Then we headed up to the Tiroler Farmhouse. The kids love playing on the little wooden animals up at the farmhouse.

Marion decided to draw a picture of Christiana riding on a sheep. She was very pleased with how it turned out.

A few more pictures from our trek through the woods.

We left the woods behind and went to the gecko climbing wall playground. Everyone tried out the climbing walls. Marion got super frustrated because she didn’t want to admit that she was scared, Elora climbed all over the place as usual, Christiana found climbing a little harder than she expected, and James is a little monkey.

I usually take pictures of animals, but today I felt so blessed to have time in a beautiful place with these sweet kids. We had a lot of fun together and I promised them we would go again this week since we had to leave for Elora to go to the eye doctor.

Elora is super excited that she will be getting glasses! She picked out her favorite pair and just has to wait a couple days to pick them up ready to use.

As we left the office, a huge rainstorm complete with hail started.

We started to run for it, but ducked into the store right next door, which just so happened to be a Dunkin Donuts. I didn’t even know they had those in Vienna. They had lots of weird flavors.
