Zoom Museum “Hear Hear Look Look” Exhibition

Today we went to the latest Exhibition at the ZOOM Kinder Museum. It is called “Hör Hör Schau Schau” which means “Hear Hear Look Look” and is all about the way ears and eyes work. The exhibitions are only for children 6 and up, so I took Elora and Oliver while the younger two were at kindergarten. They were quite excited to go to a museum when we are usually doing spelling and math lessons.

Oliver loved using the model of an ear. He played with it for a long time before I finally asked him if he knew what it was (which he didn’t). There were some really great diagrams and explanations on the wall of how the ear processes sound, and he was so excited to match up the “ear drum” with the drum in the display, the “anvil”, “hammer”, “stirrup”, and even thought the little walnut at the end of the display really did look like a brain. It was fun to see him figure out the connection between fun playtime and actual information about ears.

There was a fun dress up area. Oliver decided not to dress up as an eyeball, but he loved all the funny glasses and accessories he got to play with while looking in the large wall mirrors.

There was a great sound booth where the kids could go inside and scream really loud to test out how loud the sound they made was. Then they could compare the decibels of their screams to other loud noises. Elora managed a slightly higher decibel than Oliver, at 109 which is as loud as a lion’s roar. She thought that was pretty cool.

I didn’t take many pictures, we were having too much fun playing. The kids made kaleidescopes, fun optical allusion cards, we played in a light theater which showed how mixing colors of light will create white light, played in a mirror maze, learned how our vision sees things upside down but the brain makes the image right side up again, and tons more. It was a really great exhibition and the museum workers were very friendly and helpful. The kids are excited to come back another day when Marion can join them so they can show her all the best activities!
