James E. Boo’s Birthday!

Where has the time gone? This little guy is four years old! His birthday was celebrated for a few days.

In kindergarten, the kids work together to bake a little cake for everyone to eat after lunch. Marion put in the ingredients and James held the bowl. James got to sit in the middle of the circle at song time while the kids sang Happy Birthday and Zum Geburtstag Viel Gluck to him. His teachers gave him a cute crown and mug with his name on it and filled with gummy candies. It was a pretty special school day for him!

Grandma and Grandpa had mailed him some presents, so the kids were too excited to wait until his actual birthday to open them. After opening his fun Clifford books, he opened a new shirt, made a grumpy face, and said, “Just a shirt?!?!” But after Marion told him how cool it was, he gave his new shirt a hug. He wore his “birthday shirt” from Grandma and Grandpa for the next three days of birthday celebrations and slept in it too.

James shares a birthday with my friend Jessica, who had a super fun cake baking competition birthday party, complete with ten different cakes to sample and judge, and birthday candles for the birthday boy and lady! The kids loved seeing so many cakes (and trying the most gooey looking chocolate one). Oliver surprised me by actually trying every single cake, even the ones that I knew he wouldn’t like.  The kids judge way harsher than adults though. The cakes got rated either 1 or 10 and nothing in between! When my cake didn’t win a prize and Oliver said, “That’s sad mom, your cake didn’t win!” I reminded him that he only rated my cake a 3. “Oh… sorry…” he said. No loyalty from kids! Fun was had by all, and the kids loved running around with so many friends all afternoon.

The worn out birthday boy fell asleep in my arms on the way home!

The birthday kid in our house always gets to choose what is for dinner. James choose spaetzle, an Austrian/German dumpling style noodle. Oliver loves to make spaetzle, so he cooked James’ birthday dinner for him.

Chris was still at work after dinner and we wanted him to see James open his presents, but James just couldn’t resist the present pile. I let him open his presents from Elora and Oliver. Elora gave him several crafty items she has made or collected. James was so excited to see each one.

Oliver got James some fun racing cars, so the kids had a few car races before heading to bed.

The next morning kids and toys piled on our bed so the present opening could begin! James was excited to get new legos, Mr. Men books, Polizei pajamas, and a new Mr. Men bedding set. All the kids were almost as excited as he was. He also got some spending money from Nana and Grampy!

James changed into his Polizei pajamas right away. We enjoyed lots of book reading and lego building together before getting breakfast.

We put James’s new Mr. Men bedding on his bed, and the poor little guy finished out his birthday weekend with a 104 degree fever. This little guy is happy and cheerful through every sickness, and this was no exception. We wouldn’t have even realized he was sick except that he curled up on my lap for a nap and I could feel how hot he was. Luckily we saw the doctor early Monday morning and he made a quick recovery. Happy birthday to our cheerful, happy, energetic, daring little James E. Boo!
