Volksgarten

The Volksgarten is one of my favorite places to walk around in Vienna. The roses are all in bloom and it was a nice day, so we decided to go on a walk and enjoy the flowers.

On the way there we went to get some ice cream. Oliver was so excited because we finally tried the Zanoni and Zanoni that is across the street from the Hofburg. The kids enjoyed trying each other’s ice cream and walking around the Hofburg. I saw more people smiling at my herd of kids than normal, and I must say, they were pretty adorable today.

Marion found some pigeons, sparrows, ducks, and even some shy little ducklings at our favorite fountain in the Volksgarten. She was so excited, I think she would have spent the whole afternoon running in circles around the fountain.

We brought our journals, so each of the kids sat down near their favorite flowers and wrote or drew some observations. Oliver drew a picture of the natural history museum being taken over by pirates and volcanoes before getting to flowers.

Mango the sheep and Kitty came with us today because they REALLY wanted to see the flowers. Oliver made sure Mango saw all the sights, and considering how bright it was, I am amazed at how cute this picture turned out.

When the kids got too rowdy, we headed to the nearby Rathaus park, where James giggled at his newfound ability to stand on the swing. It was so nice out in the late afternoon that we ended up staying at the park until after dinner time. The kids just didn’t want to leave!

Instead of heading home to cook dinner, we went to Mariahilferstrasse (a nice shopping street) and at Oliver’s suggestion, we went to the Wiener Wurstel stand to get bratwurst for dinner. Yay for no dinner dishes!
