Marion Turns 3!

Marion turned three at the beginning of this month. She was born on Marie Antoinette’s birthday. Our little Viennese princess. She wanted to help me make the cake for her birthday.
Marion loves to help me cook and is pretty much always standing on her little stool in the kitchen while I cook. She changed her mind a lot of times about what kind of cake she wanted, but finally right before I started baking she decided she wanted chocolate cake. YUM.
Marion also helped me make tortillas for her birthday dinner. She is getting to be quite a pro at making tortillas.
We opened presents before eating cake. Marion is a very stoic present opener. Not that she doesn’t like what she gets, she just is very focused. You can see that her older siblings are quite excited though.
Marion got a lot of nice clothes for her birthday and ever since then she insists on wearing clothes she got for her birthday. “No! I want my birthday pants! I like these pajamas because I got them for my birthday. This is my new birthday shirt”. She must associate those clothes with happy memories!
She also got new books all featuring either an elephant or an octopus (her two favorite animals). All elephants are named Dumbo, and I have no idea why she loves octopuses (octopi?)
We didn’t have any candles. I forgot that I had used all the candles for my mom’s birthday and hadn’t bought any more. Luckily we had tea lights. Marion sang happy birthday to herself before blowing out the candles. She loves that song.
She was really excited about her cake, not because of the big duck but because of the tiny lady bug on the little flower. Funny girl. She insisted on having that piece of cake, which she mostly just squished around on her plate. She had a lot of fun.
What to say about Marion? She is our little firecracker. Incredibly feisty but irresistibly sweet. She definitely knows how she wants things to be and lets us all know about it. She loves her octopus shirt she got for her Halloween costume and wears it most days. She also loves clothes with kitties or bugs on them. When she decides she doesn’t like something she never changes her mind. We bought her a cookie monster last year and she loved it for a week and then exiled him to under her bed and he has never been allowed to sleep with her again! She loves the color purple, the movie Dumbo, Winnie the Pooh, BUGS, lizards, elephants, octopuses, the beach, the temple (and singing “I love to see the temple”), the song “Jesus Wants me for a Sunbeam”, reading books, playing outside, coloring, skiing, packing her backpack, building with legos, and doing puzzle after puzzle after puzzle. She wants to be big like her siblings, but wants to be a baby so I will still hold and snuggle her. Everyone who spends time with her says, “She really knows what she wants, doesn’t she?” Yes. Yes, she does. Happy Birthday Marion! You are growing up so fast!
