Paris Solo

I took the train into Paris on Friday and went to meet my friend Andrea. On my way there I met a couple on the train who had just come from New York. The husband was from America and the wife was French. They were nice and fun to chat with (it was a long train ride, so I was glad to have someone to talk to). I jokingly told them that I was just going to Paris for the bread. They thought that was strange. But I wasn’t really kidding, I mean, have you had the baguettes in France? SO GOOD! I could eat them all day!!!

I made it to Andrea’s house without too much trouble, other then you have to keep your subway ticket to put in a machine to let you out of the station and mine wouldn’t work! Luckily I could squeeze through the machine anyway because I was NOT going to sit there all day or buy another ticket when I knew mine should work. Andrea said that has happened to her once too… I like Vienna where you just buy a ticket but no one usually checks it. So much less hassle. ANYWAY! Here is Andrea’s SUPER cute baby Lorena. She likes walking in the stroller instead of napping at home, so we went for a little walk around the neighborhood.

We stopped at a cafe and got bread with carrot soup (very tasty) and this cute little berry mousse for dessert. Also tasty – I love mousse and berries! We had this tasty drink made out of watermelon too. It was a fun time!

After visiting Andrea, I went to check out the Musee de Orsay. Chris wanted to see it too, but our one day in Paris was going to be Monday when the museum is closed, so I went to see it on my own. I love this clock! The museum is in an old train station, so it was an unusual building for a museum, but I loved it!

I found some nice American tourists who took my picture for me and I took their picture for them. Then we chatted about how beautiful the building and the artwork were. So easy to make friends with English speaking tourists, I think because it is nice to hear a familiar language!

You are not supposed to take pictures of the artwork, but a took a couple of the building just because I loved it so much! I went to see the impressionist artwork. It was so beautiful. Very crowded though, which is sad because I like to sit and enjoy paintings for a little while when I find one I like. But it was still nice to see a new museum. I didn’t go to the Louvre because I have been before and wanted to see some of the other museums. Next time I come back I will have to check out the Rodin and Orangie museums, I didn’t have time to see all the museums I wanted to!!!!

When you go up to the top floor you can look out at the city through the clock which was pretty fun. I love clocks. I have them all over my house.

I had a little while before I needed to catch the train, so I sat down at a cafe and thought “Wow, that is a lot of people!” So I took a picture of the mobs of people. The fountain is nice too. I loved going to the city, but wish it was not quite so crowded… and I didn’t love the cafe I was sitting at because they didn’t come to see what I wanted even though I waited awhile. So I headed off to find another cafe and ran out of time. Bummer. I like hot chocolate and wanted some!

We all went out to dinner and a fondue and crepe restaurant. Most of the guys got the all-you-can-eat crepes (how awesome is that?) Chris got the cheese fondue and I got meat fondue. It was all delicious. It was a fun and adventurous d
