Demolition Derby

We went to the demolition derby for the first time this year. Chris was one of the firemen on call, so we all went. The kids sat with Chris on top of the fire truck until the lightning and rain started, then we all climbed inside the truck.

The rain did not blow over, so we sat in the truck for awhile. The kids watched a little of the cars wrecking, but mostly they just played with the truck. We accidentally turned on the flashing lights a few times and when the kids figured out how they had done it, we did it on purpose a few times too! Oliver is pretending to be scared because there is a “fire” that he has to go fight.

Little ham. Notice the car being lifted out of the arena in the background.

Honestly, I didn’t get to see much of the derby and certainly not enough to understand the rules, but it was pretty funny to watch Oliver pretend to drive the truck and use the radio.

Marion joined in the fun too. After an hour with the rain still going strong, I took the kids home. So as far as seeing our first derby, it was kind of a dud. But we had a pretty good time, and maybe we’ll come back next year and see if we can figure out what actually happens in the arena next time!
