Paradise Cove Hermit Crab

The kids and I took a lot of walks in the morning to the Paradise Cove beach. There are little tide pools with crabs and fish sometimes and Elora REALLY wanted Daddy to come see it. So we took a little walk and Elora brought her magnifying glass so she could explore better.

Marion likes to stop on the rocks with the salt on them. She felt a little nervous with the big waves though.

Elora is quite the explorer and usually finds the fish and crabs. She pokes around the rocks a lot. The water was a little higher than we wanted so we didn’t get to look in all our favorite pools, but we found a couple new spots to explore and we found…

Hermit crabs! We had never seen one on our walks before. Chris found this one and then Elora found another baby one. Can you see them both? Elora also used her magnifying glass to look at them and noticed that hermit crabs have blue eyes. I had no idea that she was right until I looked at the pictures. Very observant little girl.

Oliver jumped around on the rocks a lot. He is so funny, it looks like he is dancing but I think he was being a ninja turtle.

We ended up finding 5 or 6 hermit crabs in different pools. We took this one out of the water so we could take better photos of it.

And Elora was even brave enough to pick one up. She did drop it though when it brought out the big claws… Luckily she is small and close to the ground so the crab didn’t get hurt.

Little Marion rode on Daddy’s head on the way back to the condo. The sun was starting to go down and the evening was so beautiful. I love this little spot in Hawaii, so peaceful!
