Chris’ Birthday

Chris decided to bake his own cake for his birthday this year. I had something planned for later in the week, but the Sunday before his birthday I came home to find Chris with a French flourless chocolate cake and homemade ice cream. He then asked me to bake my normal very chocolately moist cake to layer on top of the ice cream and French cake.
Looks so amazing…
For dinner we made egg rolls – the kids never try them, but we love them and everyone gets to pick what they will eat for their special birthday dinner.
We got all the kids to put an egg roll on their plate – it helped that Batman was here for dinner, he is always willing to try new things.
We molded the rice inside of measuring cups. It looks so pretty on the plate.
And strangely enough, it made the kids get really excited to eat their “rice cakes”.
Here is one kid excited about the meal – she LOVES rice. And then we get to try cleaning sticky rice off of every imaginable surface for at least two days…
Elora counted the candles to make sure we had enough. I was two short – whoops! I guess Elora can count better than me. We only wrote “Happy Day” on the cake because there wasn’t room for “Happy Birthday Chris” and it wasn’t actually his birthday yet anyway…
James seemed a little confused by the whole event. In his defense, he was still feeling a little sick from having RSV.
As usual, Chris blew out all the candles! The kids didn’t like the French chocolate cake, but I thought it was pretty amazing. After this the kids both picked out what kind of cake they want for their birthdays and neither of them picked chocolate. Weirdos… Unfortunately when the kids don’t like the cake it means that Chris and I knocked out the whole cake ourselves. Or maybe that is “fortunately”.
