Happy Halloween!

We started celebrating Halloween the Saturday before! There was a Halloween celebration in Orderville, so we got our costumes prepared and headed over to watch the parade, enjoy the dance, and I even entered the soup contest.

Marion LOVES her ladybug costume. In fact, as soon as she saw it, she asked to put it on (which is saying something, because normally Marion insists on wearing pajamas all day). She saw a guy wearing a white scare mask and it was so funny, because instead of being scared, every time she looked at it she would start smiling and giggling.

Elora found her friend Karlie and they enjoyed dancing the night away.

Elora was a little nervous with the crowd of people at first, but once she got comfortable with the crowd, she was so excited to run around and find her friends.

Oliver wasn’t very interested in dancing, he just ran around swinging his Peter Pan sword. The kids this year picked out what they wanted to be. Oliver chose Peter Pan (because then he got to carry a knife), and Elora chose Tinkerbell. How fun that they chose to coordinate, and I didn’t even have to coach them! Lucky for me too, because those were pretty easy costumes to make.

It was getting late and we wanted to leave the party, but then they announced the costume contest and Elora really wanted to enter. So everyone ended up entering, and although none of us won, we all got a piece of candy for our trouble. I did, however, win runner up in the soup contest and won a ladle full of candy corn.

I tried to take pictures of the kids in their costumes. Marion ran away, and Elora started distracting Oliver by showing him various pumpkins… But I like this picture anyway – Elora because she looks so happy, and Oliver because it looks like he thinks Elora is weird for showing him squash.

Oliver has been marching around wearing his Peter Pan costume ever since the Saturday night Halloween party. He informed me that Oliver is gone – he went off to battle with the king, and now Peter Pan lives upstairs in Neverland, although he comes downstairs to London to visit Wendy (that is me) on occasion. He also won’t call me mom, because Peter Pan doesn’t have a mom.

I wonder when Oliver will come back?

Here is Marion letting us know she is ready to go and get some candy! She likes to go “Bye bye”. It doesn’t really matter where we are going, as long as she gets to ride in the car and go somewhere.

And here is my beautiful little Tinkerbell. I was always partial to Tinkerbell when I was younger too, so this year it was fun to see Elora dressed up in her cute fairy costume. I wore my Tinkerbell costume too – but I really don’t need to post pictures of me, Elora is way cuter.

When we were finally ready to go, Marion had become distracted by the crunchy fall leaves. Here is Oliver trying to tell her that we need to go…

More cute Elora. She was so excited about her pink wings, even though they don’t really match… she didn’t want to wear the white undershirt at first – because Tinkerbell doesn’t have a long sleeve shirt. But luckily we convinced her that Utah is a little cold, so she needed to wear the undershirt. I love her cute Tinkerbell hair. At first she told me that I made it “Too big”, so when she wore her costume to school on Halloween she wouldn’t let me put her hair up like this. But I told her how pretty she looked and that I used to do my hair like that too, and then she let me style it up again.

We were all sad because Ila Mae (our sweet neighbor) was not home on Halloween, so we couldn’t trick or treat at her house. Luckily she came over early and brought treats to our house. Instead we got started at “Sister Sally’s House”. The kids love Sally, and it is always fun to trick or treat in our little town where we know everyone. We get to chat with friends and everyone gives more candy than they need to because there just aren’t that many trick or treaters in a town of 300 people and yet we all still buy a lot of candy…

Oliver was so excited to show off what kind of treats he got.

We had a hard time keeping Marion from eating her treats as we went. Finally she insisted on eating a lolly pop, which she really enjoyed.

Elora stopped to pet a horse while we were out trick or treating.

Isn’t she cute? I love this costume. I made it for Elora, and I am glad that Marion liked it too. It has cute antennae that go with it, but when I asked Marion if she wanted to wear them, she gave a resounding “NO!” so we just gave her cute hair instead. And I didn’t pick out her footwear, I guess she figured that the polka dot boots went well with her polka dot dress.

The kids decided that Daddy should be Captain Hook. We didn’t have a pirate hat, but Chris did make an awesome coat hanger hook. I love Halloween and costumes. It is so fun! We baked Halloween cookies to give out to trick or treaters this year, because who needs more candy when you can have cookies? And since we all know each other in our town, no one was worried that we were trying to poison them! Oliver wanted to keep celebrating for weeks, he was so sad when we took down our decorations, and like I said – he still wears his costume every day. I guess we know what his favorite holiday is! Happy Halloween everyone!
