Halloween

Halloween is a big favorite around this house. I love costumes and we have plenty of them. I always seem to make more, in spite of the huge box we already have. This year I gave myself a break from making costumes (since there seem to be plenty of projects already going on in this house…) but the kids costumes still looked cute. Oliver picked out Elora’s knight costume from last year (I think so he could carry an ax or sword). Elora wanted to be a fairy princess which turned out to be easy as I found her a pair of wings at the Apple Festival and then she could just wear her ballet clothes. Marion got to be Harry Potter by default because that is the only costume we have in baby size!
We picked all of our pumpkins just before we started getting snow and lined them all up to take pics of the kids before we cooked the pumpkins. Elora and Oliver were really excited. Marion is giggling because she is just about to run away. I am amazed we even ended up with any pictures that had Marion in them.
I am one of the kindergarten room moms and got to help with Elora’s little class party. We had five stations for the kids to go to. This one was making monster mouths out of apples, almonds, and candy. Elora was really excited about all the fun Halloween activities. But unfortunately she didn’t feel like smiling in any pictures…
There was also a story station, two game stations, and I got to be in charge of the craft where we painted rocks to look like Jack’O Lanterns. It was pretty fun. The kids got to help me collect rocks from our yard so I could have enough for all the kindergartners.
The Elementary school had a Halloween costume parade. The teachers get really into the Halloween spirit and have great costumes. The kids were all dressed up. And here is Elora super excited to line up for the parade. She opted to be a knight for school so she wouldn’t have to worry about her wings at recess. She thought wings might hinder her ability to go on the slide.
The best part of all our small town parades is that they once again stopped traffic on the highway for the kids to be able to parade across the street. LOVE IT!
Oliver and Marion got to go to a little Halloween party too. My mom was visiting and took them over to a little costume party at the church down the street from the school and Chris came down all dressed up to see the parade.
For trick or treating Elora opted to be a karate kid instead of a fairy. Not sure where all the fairy excitement went to, but she was so pleased to wear this costume that belonged to Chris when he was little. And of course, we are excited that we now have enough children that we can legitimately dress up and trick or treat with them. As if we ever stopped trick or treating…
The kids are super excited for their first stop at Ila Mae’s house. They are trying to tell Marion to come over to the door. She wasn’t sure what the point of all this was.
I love Halloween here because we know everyone and get invited to come inside at about half the houses. Here is Elora posing with Ila Mae. The kids love our neighbor and it is always a treat to visit her house.
Marion got a lolly pop and then decided that this trick or treating stuff was pretty fun.
Here we are at my friend JoAnna’s house. I love how excited she gets when the kids come over. They love her house too.
And Marion by the end of the night was so happy to reach in a bowl to get more of these fun treats. She usually started eating them without bothering to take off the wrapper. She is a big fan of eating paper. Every time someone held out a bowl of candy to her she would giggle and say, “ooooohhhhhh!” So cute. I love Halloween. Now I just need to figure out what to do with all this candy. We had to confiscate Oliver’s because the day after Halloween we told him to wait until after dinner before eating his candy and he stole his candy bag, hid in the bushes, and ate half the bag. He wasn’t feeling real good that night…
