A few weeks ago we had the apple festival in town. There was a town dinner at the park and Chris and I got to be in charge of some of the games. Chris spent the week before the dinner building a catapult and a castle for his game.
As you can see, Oliver was a big fan of the catapult. There will be no comment on Oliver’s outfit! The catapult was a big hit at the dinner too. Unfortunately all the bean bags I made were destroyed while sieging the castle, so I guess I will be making some new bean bags.
I was in charge of the cupcake walk. The kids got to walk around the numbers while the music played, and when the music stopped everyone jumped on a number. We drew a number out of the hat to determine who won a cupcake each round. This game also turned out to be a big hit and we had a number of kids (including our own) who came back to play even after they were told they couldn’t actually win any more cupcakes (we tried to limit each kid to just two…) Chris made the game more interesting by having the kids hop or cluck like a chicken instead of just walking.
When the kids were finished with the games it was off to the park to play on the big scary teeter totter… Seriously, there are always kids falling off of this thing!
Elora and Oliver love teeter totters though and they had a great time running around with all the other kids.
Our favorite band, The Baker Bunch was playing that night. Our neighbor Ila Mae is in the band and our kids love to watch her play.
The dinner was free for everyone – dutch oven potatoes. Which as it turns out, Marion loves dutch oven potatoes. The hardest part was getting her to leave any on the plate for me!
We love Marion, she is so funny. And she loves food.
The next day there were booths set up to sell a lot of different things – I bought Elora a pair of fairy wings for her Halloween costume, and was able to get some awesome vegetables from my friend Myrna. There were other yummy foods and crafts. Marion figured out that if she hung out by the cotton candy booth little pieces of the cotton candy would fly through the air and land on the grass where she could eat it…
I was planning to sell homemade yogurt… but it didn’t set! I have never had that happen with yogurt. So instead of giving up completely, Chris suggested we make frozen yogurt. So I took our ice cream maker over to my booth and made frozen yogurt to sell. Marion was my big helper for the day. We didn’t get tons of business, but I am excited for next year. I have tons of ideas to make the Apple Festival better than ever!
