Bates Nut Farm

While at my parents house during my birthday week, I took the kids to Bate’s Nut Farm again. I love going there because I used to go when I was a kid, and it is free except for the 50 cents a bag you pay for corn to feed the animals. My kids love animals and it is so fun to watch them feed the animals! Oliver always just walks right up and feeds them; Elora starts out a little more cautious. The funny part is that Oliver got bit by a horse (really bad!) when he was a baby, but he is still not scared. Maybe it is scarier for Elora because she remembers Ollie getting bit…
Oliver really wanted to pet the funny fluffy chickens. And he actually stuck his hand throught the fence so he could feel what it would be like for the chickens to peck him. Sigh. So Oliver. “No Oliver, they will peck your hand and it will hurt!” so he sticks his hand in and excitedly yells, “The chicken peck me!!!!”
Elora liked the baby llama. I love the way they are smiling at each other.
Elora finally let the sheep eat out of her hand. And why is it that my kids always have their mouth open when feeding animals?
Marion was so excited to see all the animals. She always barks like a dog when she sees animals. Maybe we can teach her to “Maaa” like a goat.
She also found some great leaves on the ground that she really wanted to eat. It was so funny because she would want to stand up at the fence to see the animals, but as soon as I put her down she would start crawling in the mud and trying to eat the animal feed. Sigh.
We went over to the store to buy a little treat. Actually we go there because they have handmade chocolates and almost every type of chocolate comes in milk OR dark chocolate. You know how hard it is to find good dark chocolates? These ones are pretty amazing. So while I bought a box of chocolates, the kids got to pick a few candies out of the huge barrels around the store. They each chose taffy and we quite excited about it.
Here they are with the cowboy who lives in the store, each holding their bag of taffy. The funny part is they each got four pieces… and they both chose four of the same flavor. I think they chose by what color they were. Oliver chose four green ones and Elora chose four pink ones. Funny kids.
