Emerald Pools Hike & Dinner

Our last day hiking in Zion with Manfred & co. we went to the touristy Emerald Pools falls trail. There’s a little spot off the main trail where we’d always hike over to, just to sit down and relax. Elora was excited to carve indian glyphs into the rock and Oliver was happy to climb around.
And Marion was happy to be with Mommy! This was memorial day weekend, but we were all still wearing hats and hoodies because it was so cold!
Ollie and Elena climbing around in a little hole in the rock. It was interesting that even though our kids don’t speak German and their kids don’t speak English they had such a great time together.
Elora carving an “I love you” glyph into the wall.
After hiking up a ways, we went to another favorite spot and had lunch. Here’s Oliver being a dinosaur.
Marion was happy to roll around in the sand and eat sticks.
While Elora ran around and went exploring.
We hiked all the way to the Upper Pools water fall, and never even took a picture of it. We tried to take a picture of the kids, and this is the best we got.
Oliver was patiently posing cutely while Elora put on a show.
With our luck, right around the time Elora learns to smile nicely, Oliver will be in the goober-face phase.
We decided to walk the long way around and then go over to the “Weeping Rock” where water seeping out from the canyon hundreds of feet above has taken 10,000 years to seep through to the bottom.
Oliver thought the 10,000 year old water tickled.
Then they ran around and splashed in the mud puddles.
Either Manfred and Ingrid were tired of our home cooking, or they wanted to treat us to something nice… or Manfred just wanted a beer (probably all three!), so we went to our favorite restaurant in Springdale outside of Zion.
After I finished my pork chop, Elena was eying the left over bone… she said something in baby-talk to Manfred and he mentioned that she wanted to know if she could gnaw on my left over bone… errr… sure! So we decided to take a picture.
As a final note, the kids were actually all very good during dinner, but some old lady who had been drinking too much wine across from us thought we were being too loud and let us know it. As we were leaving she actually huffed, “Morons!” Perhaps, she was just calling us “Mormons!” But I don’t think so… so I apologized on the way out, and she looked as angry as ever. The kids really weren’t noisy at all either…weirdo…
